Jaw crusher is mainly applied for primary and secondary crushing in the mining, building materials, infrastructure and other industries. Stimulating the animal’s two jaw movement, the jaw crusher completes the crushing process of material in the chamber formed by a fixed jaw and swing jaw. According to the movement of swing jaw, the jaw crusher is divided into double toggle jaw crusher and single toggle jaw crusher. In the operation, the swing jaw of the former only makes simple arc movement while the latter also makes up-and-down movement in addition to arc movement.  

A double toggle jaw crusher is much larger, heavier, more moving parts and lower throughput than modern single toggle jaw crushers. The lower throughput statement is a bit misleading because it’s partially attributed to the type of bearings they have versus modern crushers, so if one was to upgrade the bearings, throughput could be closer to that of a modern jaw.

 As to the specific advantages and disadvantages of double toggle jaw crusher and single toggle jaw crusher, they are explained as follows: 

Double toggle jaw crusher

Advantages: compact and simple structure, smaller size, easy operation and maintenance for the parts, a wide range of applications; eccentric shaft and other transmission suffer less force and the vertical displacement of swing jaw is smaller, so there will be less excessive crushing phenomenon and less abrasion against the swing jaw.

Disadvantages: not suitable for flaky stone; there are idle stroke, which requires extra energy consumption. When crushing sticky and damp material, it is easy to plug the outlet.

Single toggle jaw crusher

Advantages: lighter quality, fewer moving components, the structure is more compact, crushing cavity is well filled up, the material can be evenly crushed; the final products are discharged at the lower end of swing jaw in a mandatory manner, so it has higher productivity compared with double toggle jaw crusher.  Due to constant up-and-down rolling movement, the finished material have cubic grain shape.

Disadvantages: due to large vertical swing amplitude of moving jaw, the materials may cause serious abrasion against the jaw plate; besides, it also increases energy consumption. The excessive crushing occurs more frequently and more dust will be produced during the operation. 

It is advisable for customers to determine the material type and the requirements for the yield & finished material types so as to select the appropriate type.
